First and foremost, thank you for signing up to play in Beacon Falls’ first ever adult coed Slow pitch softball league. This is our 3rd year, and we are excited for the season!
If you have any issues, comments, questions, etc. you may contact the league founders: Mau Carroll 203-518-0228
Jon Conte 203-927-2058
Chris Sansone 203-892-5489
This agreement must be read and signed by every player before the season’s first game. Violation of any rules may result in a forfeit of a game/take a loss, and/or player expulsion.
As a reminder, this is an adult rec league. No scouts from the MLB will be there. Everyone deserves respect. Don’t be a dick!
Team Rules
•All players must be Beacon Falls residents (we classify residents as the following: you currently live in town, or you grew up in town and attended schools here but have since moved). We do however allow a maximum of 3 out of towners per team.
• Each team will be led by a team captain. It is the team captain’s responsibility to build their team and make sure they have enough players for each game. It is also their responsibility to keep their team up to date on game scheduled, times, cancellations, etc. It is recommended for all team captains to attend our “Captains Meetings” to voice their concerns and suggestions.
• Each team must present at least 9 players to each game. However, if the team roster is less than 10 players, the last spot in the batting order will be reserved for an automatic out.
• All players must wear their team provided uniform shirt. Players are to wear any type of bottoms they prefer. Players can either wear sneakers or cleats - however, no metal cleats or spikes of any type are allowed.
• Benching of a player is not allowed. When a player shows up for the game, they must play at least 1 inning in the field and 1 at bat.
• The team Captain agrees to bring the following to each game (or a designated person if they are not coming):
o First aid kit (provided by the league)
o Strike mat (provided by the league)
o At least 1 metal bat and 1 wooden bat (provided by the league)
• Alcohol is not permitted at the town parks.
• Every player agrees to clean up their trash. Garbage cans are located by each dug out.
• Teams are only made up of registered players. There are no temporary “fill in”
replacements, who have not registered to play.
• At least 3 females must play the field every inning.
• Each team may consist of as many players as you’d like (or as little players as you like) -
but keep in mind that there must be 3 females in the field at all times, if you don’t have enough players to field a team you take the loss. There is no benching of any players (unless there is an injury). Everyone signed up and paid to play.
Batting
• Prior to the start of every game, each teams batting order(s) must be submitted to the umpire.
• Each batting order must have at least 3 females batting.
• No more than 2 males can bat in a row.
• Batting rosters are up to each individual team.
o Teams may have all players in the batting order for the entire game. Teams can move players in and out of the field throughout the game - however, once the batting order is established/handed in to the umpire - it cannot be altered.
o Teams may submit 2 batting line ups.
o Example: 1 for innings 1-3 (those players play in field for those innings and bat)
and a second for innings 4-7 (prior group is now out of the game - and second
group is on for field and batting).
• No pinch hitters/substitute batters.
• Female players have the option of using a wooden bat or a metal bat.
• Males may only use wooden bats or a corndog bat.
• Batter must stand in the batter’s box.
• No bunting
• Ball hit over outfield fence (in fair play) is considered a home run.
• Strikes will be called. A ball pitched that hits the strike zone mat will be considered a
strike. 3 strikes = out.
• Balls will be called. Any ball pitched that does not hit the strike mat and is not swung at,
will be called as a ball.
o Once 4 balls are called, you take your base.
o Please note, you cannot “walk in” a run. If bases are loaded and batter receives 4
balls, he/she will not be walked; they must hit the ball or strike out. • Batter is not awarded 1st base when hit by a pitched ball.
Fouls
• Any foul ball caught clean is considered an out.
• 3rd foul out will be considered an out.
Courtesy Runners
• Each team is allowed 1 courtesy runner, per inning, per sex. (1 for a male and 1 for a female). A male can only run for a male / female can only run for a female.
Scoring
• All runners must touch home plate for the run to count.
• Only stepping on the strike mat will not count as a run and will leave the runner open to
being tagged out.
Overthrows
• All overthrows will remain playable - unless it is thrown over the fence or into the dugout; then 1 base advancement.
Runners
• No leading.
• No stealing.
• Base runner cannot purposely run into a fielder who has possession of the ball, with
intentions of making fielder drop ball - this will result in runner being called out.
• Base runner cannot interfere with a fielder attempting to field a batted ball or
intentionally interfere with a thrown ball - this will result in runner being called out.
Pitching
• Prior to inning starting, the pitcher may throw 3 warm up pitches.
• Pitchers must pitch from the pitchers mound (at least 1 foot must be on the mound).
• Pitches must be thrown in an under-hand fashion.
• Pitches must be arched/lobbed.
Balls
• 12” softballs will be used for every game.
• Only game balls provided by the league may be used.
Bats
• All bats used must be a slow pitch softball approved bat.
• No baseball bats allowed.
• Umpire may check bats.
• Teams can request a bat check.
Umpires
• At least 1 paid umpire will be present at every game. The price of umpires has been calculated into all sign up registration fees - so the umpires will be paid by the league.
• Umpire’s call is final.
• 2 umpires will be present for our championship game.
Liability
• You agree that you are playing at your own risk. Any injuries or damage done on the field, at bat, during the game will not be the responsibility of the league or the town of Beacon Falls.
Scheduling
• A schedule of all games will be handed out prior to the first game. There will be no rescheduling of games (only time a game may be rescheduled is weather permitting).
• Our games are set to take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings with a start time of 7:30 PM at the Beacon Falls Rec.
• We have an anticipated start date for the first game of Monday, May 6, 2024, at 7:30 PM. We intend to run the regular season until August 9th. We aim to start the playoffs August 12th. *Please note, these dates are subject to change. *
• In the event there is a rain out during a game - the game will be halted. If the game cannot continue that night - the game will be rescheduled and will resume at the exact spot it left off (score, outs, batter, etc. will all remain the same).
*Rules are subject to change. Change of rules will result in an updated agreement. *
Again, we thank you for signing up to play!
We hope this league brings you joy and provides a fun atmosphere for all.
A copy of these rules will be provided to each player to sign before the first game starts.
